The History of the U.S.

The History of “US”

I had a Social Studies professor tell his class once that “History is like a swimming pool… you have a shallow end, a middle, and a deep end!  It’s all a matter of the part you choose to swim in!”

For many, faith is like that!

The shallow end gives us the faith and belief we need to enjoy God’s amazing grace and mercy.  The middle gives us that comfort of unwavering forgiveness while the deep end shows us the depth (pun intended) of not only the richness and fullness of God’s love but the reasons why and the proof that He did it over and over throughout the history of US!  And He’ll do it again!!!

Paul Harvey used the tag line… “and now you know the rest of the story!”  He would offer his listeners the background to the people we knew with a simple flair of how and why we knew them.  They were both informative and insightful as well as (often) inspiring!

The history of US (these United States of America) is marked with moments and memorials along with days of celebration for those moments and events that made this broken country the greatest in world’s history.  We note often their struggles and causes that have molded who we are as a people and as a nation.  Many of these moments had the most uncertain outcomes from brave and daring Americans and yet we celebrate them in all their splendor and glory.

The history of US (followers of Christ) is also rich.  Faithful men and women who have served the cause of Christ in ways and through difficult circumstances that we sometimes barely or rarely know.  Our minister, Houston Haynes, uses the phrase “peal back the verses” in our studies.  A revealing or unveiling of the scriptures to allow us to dive into the deep end of God’s word.

2 Timothy 2:15;  “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

So too, we as Christians cherish the word of God (the Bible) and study it to see the history, the story, the love, the traditions of ….US!
