Thinkers and Doers

Thinkers & Doers

In my life I’ve regularly been surrounded by two types of people; “Thinkers” who have to process everything, who want to fully understand and appreciate what certain concept have to offer – and “Doers” who want to make things happen and would rather get their hands dirty than learn about the concepts that go behind the work. Usually, each of these people think their way is better, but what I’ve found is having a healthy balance of both tends to make the best crew.

When the Israelites were going back into the Promised Land after serving decades as captives in the Babylonian exile, God gave them two leaders, a thinker and a doer, Ezra & Nehemiah. Ezrah was a very learned priest who came to teach this new community about the Law & Commands of God as they rebuilt themselves into God’s people. Nehemiah, on the other hand, was focused on rebuilding the wall and structures of Jerusalem so the newly returned Israelites could be safe and secure. Both were needed and both were inspired by God to go and lead His people to a better future.

Whether you’re more of a Bible-reading, theology-meditating, teacher/thinker or you’re a homeless-serving, potluck-prepping, worker/doer – we need you. You have a service to offer the Kingdom of God and you are an important part of the Church. I look forward to your next contribution.

Blessings,

Houston
