Peace

I have too much love for the game of baseball to just follow one team. So I faithfully follow three baseball teams: Cincinnati, Texas, and San Diego. I have been to plenty of Reds games, and I have seen San Diego a few times. But I had never seen the Rangers play, until last week.

As much as I enjoy the laid back nature of being at a ball game, I must admit that I’m often on the edge of my seat hoping for my team to succeed. But this wasn’t the case last week. When I saw Texas play in Cincinnati I was able to sit back and just take it in. I wasn’t worried about the outcome because I liked both teams. It was the most peaceful that I have felt during a sporting event.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

“Peae I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” John 14:27

It doesn’t make sense for someone to be at peace when their circumstances are not peaceful. When they are facing frustrations, failures, or heartbreaks. But that is the kind of peace that God has given us through Jesus. A peace that is not changed by our circumstances. A peace that doesn’t make sense to those who don’t have it. I hope that as we go through life and as our circumstances change, that we would remember that God is with us. And that He is the source of everything we need, including peace.

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1
