Patience

Every time I pour coffee from one of those glass carafes, I know that I’m going to spill some. No matter how hard I try, some of it will end up on the counter. These carafes were designed to be used slowly and I can never seem to go slow enough to not spill.

When it comes to my coffee, I’m not very patient. Pouring coffee goes much better with patience, as does many things in life. Sometimes we get in a hurry for results now—we want what we want when we want it. Some things just don’t work that way.

There are many verses in the Bible that encourage us to be patient.

Psalm 27:14 Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

Romans 12:12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

James 5:8 You too, be patient and stand firm because the Lord’s coming is near.

Proverbs 19:11 A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.

Lamentations 3:26 It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

On vacation this week, our condo had a glass carafe. I may have spilled some coffee. Nevertheless, it was a good reminder: Patience.
