A Father's Love

A Father's Love

I have been thinking deeply about Father’s Day this year. With my family having grown from just me and my dog to a wife and three children as well, I am reminded of Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it". and Ephesians 6:4 "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” How much more important is it for us, as fathers, to raise our children properly and bring them to the Lord in this day and age? I, myself sometimes find I'm having the same frustrating conversations with a 9, 7, and 4 year old about obeying what I have told them to do or getting them to clean their rooms or not fight over toys the other has. But I am reminded how much more frustration our Father in heaven must feel when we, as his children rebel and disobey Him. But we see the contrast of how forgiving and merciful our Father is to us when we frustrate Him. Our Father's patience is greater with us than we can even fathom when we choose to sin in seasons or repeat the same mistakes over and over as we try to follow our Father's will for our lives. So, I am called back to a big saying of my youth for us this Father’s Day of "WWJD", What Would Jesus Do? How would He respond to situations we encounter? How can we, as leaders of our families and as followers of Christ do our best to follow what we have learned from the bible? Psalm 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Let us make sure we are leaving good footsteps for our children to follow. If we continue to follow Jesus and His footsteps, then we will surely do well as examples of Christian living for our children. So next time you are in a situation think to yourself WWJD and let us check our hearts and see where we are as well as find mercy when our children disobey or struggle with life the same as we.  We need to always make sure we see where our footsteps lead so we can never stray our children away from the path of righteousness.
