Finding Strength in the Lord
1 Samuel 30: 1-8 / Finding Strength in the Lord
After returning home from a campaign of battles and conquests, David and his men find their homes destroyed, their wives and children gone, everything they had worked so hard to build and protect… gone! Scripture says they “wept until they had no strength left to weep!”
Certainly, every one of us have been to that point. A moment where all is lost in spite of our good intentions, in spite of the things we tried to protect, those things we cherished… all gone… to the point where you “have no strength left to weep” even more.
The battle-weary men were so distraught they even considered stoning David as a result of their loss and their loyalty to his leadership.
David knew he was at a low point both personally and as a leader to his men and as a servant of God. We are not told this in scripture but I’m imagining as a God fearing people we are and the God fearing man David was… he had to find a point of privacy to be with God. He went to that place and scripture says “David found strength in the Lord his God!”
Interesting, David’s prayer has two specific questions to God…1) “Shall I pursue our enemies? 2) Will I succeed?” And God says “Pursue them” and “you will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue” (of your families).
“David found strength in the Lord his God” and God’s guidance in what to do next after being at his lowest point.
I’m reminded of the song Surrounded by Michael W Smith.. “ It may look like I’m surrounded, but I’m surrounded by you. This is how I fight my battles!”
At your lowest and at your highest, find your strength in the Lord, and give Him praise… for He has and He will….do great things for you!
