Are you a tinkerer or know someone who is? You know, someone who builds things or creates things. This type of person is often into woodworking or some similar task. My great grandfather was into a lot of things like this, and he frequently had at least a few projects that were “in progress”. This usually meant that he either didn’t have the right part, not enough parts to finish the project or just got frustrated because it wasn’t going like he’d planned. Many of us have experienced this in the form of home projects - plumbing, landscaping, remodeling, other. And I know I’ve run into this problem a few times. Sometimes, we keep working on the project until it is finished and sometimes, we just give up, walk away and come back later.

I remember a song from Bible school growing up. The lyrics go something like this: “He’s still workin’ on me, to make me who I ought to be…”. It’s a simple message, but it holds true all our lives. God might be perfect, but He didn’t make any of us perfect. That means we are a work in progress in God’s eyes. The best part is that God doesn’t walk away from us when we don’t get it right. No matter how many times we slip up, He is always there waiting for us to come back to him. Philippians 1:6 backs this up by saying… “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

The band Mercy Me has a fitting song called Finish What He Started. It talks about knowing that there will be hard times that everyone will face and that no matter how we react to those hard times, God is more than capable to get us through those times. He’s with us always and will finish what he started in us. Don’t give up on yourself, no matter what, because God will see you through and He will never give up on you.
