Perspective

One of my favorite people to read about in the Bible is Joseph. His story is definitely far from boring. From betrayal to dream visions to escaping adultery to famine, Joseph had a lot going on. There are many important lessons and themes throughout his story. We can see faithful obedience to God, family dynamics (good and bad), God working through our trials, and we can learn from Joseph’s changed perspective.

Joseph’s brothers had sold him into slavery, and he eventually found himself in prison although he had done nothing wrong. Instead of giving up his faith Joseph was faithful to God through all of this.

Eventually Joseph was raised to a higher position in Egypt and through him God saved the people during the famine. Even though it was hard to see at the beginning, God had a plan for Joseph the entire time.

Later on his father and his brothers came to Egypt for help during the famine. They were reunited. Eventually their father died, and Joseph’s brothers were afraid that he would take out his revenge on them for what they had done to him. Here is what Joseph had to say to them in Genesis 50:20-21

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. 21 So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.”

His perspective here is amazing. I hope that we can all learn from Joseph’s response to his brothers. To not give up hope as we go through times of suffering. To keep our eyes fixed on God, knowing that He has a plan for us that we just may not see yet.
