Good Comforter
Mary Poppins is a comforting movie for many people. This is largely because comfort is exactly what Mary Poppins does. She comes in and she provides comfort and stability for the Banks family. She came in at a time when their world was a mess and their family was falling apart.
Unfortunately we are all too familiar with this kind of brokenness. Living in a broken world we all experience things like loss, pain, and hurt. There are people in the world who experience things like hunger, poverty, and war. These are things that we were never meant to experience. So they take a toll on us.
God isn’t some far away God who doesn’t understand our pain.
“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let’s hold firmly to our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things just as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let’s approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need.” Hebrews 4:14-16
God understands our sufferings and the hardships we face. And He wants us to come to Him for help.
“Come to Me, all [a]who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
When it feels like our lives are a mess and everything is falling apart, God is waiting for us with open arms. He is ready to help us, and to comfort us in whatever our needs may be.
