Your Spiritual Journey
Quiet Time
“Quiet Time” doesn’t seem to exist anymore. No matter where you are in life there’s always something to do! If you’re riding in the car there’s probably music, an audiobook, or a podcast playing. When you’re home there’s plenty of chores to do. Work seems to demand more and more hours. Even if you wake up in the middle of the night you find yourself checking emails on your phone! When was the last time you felt like you could be still or quiet?
If we were honest, most of us would say stopping to catch our breath isn’t an option because the piles of work would become mountains of work while we rested. We fear that any break for stillness will result in more headaches later on. But notice the focus in these thoughts is in our own personal abilities. If You don’t do it, You will fail. But we trust in powers greater than ourselves, don’t we? Consider Moses’ words to a fretful Israel as they felt stuck with impending consequences, “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Ex. 14:14). Let God share the burden in your life and power your battles! You simply need to give in to the Sabbath rest He desires for you. Which also invites Him in to do for you what you cannot do for yourself! Of course, that doesn’t mean you should nap at work, trusting that “God’s got this.” But you can choose to give yourself healthy moments of rest because God will deliver you in the hardships of life.
Stand still every now and then, and see what great things God will do when you’re not trying to do it all.
Blessings,
Houston
