Persistent Prayer
At some point in our lives we have all bugged our parents for something that we desperately wanted. Even after they repeatedly told us no, we persisted in asking because it was so important to get that toy, game, or whatever it was. We also persisted because we believed that if we kept on asking they might just say yes, even if it was just to shut us up.
2 “saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect any person. 3 Now there was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me justice against my [a]opponent.’ 4 For a while he was unwilling; but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor respect any person, 5 yet because this widow is bothering me, I will give her justice; otherwise [b]by continually coming she will wear me out.’” Luke 18:2-5
It is easy to give up hope when we have been praying for something for a considerable amount of time, and it seems like nothing is changing. As time goes on it seems as if God isn’t listening, or that if He is then He doesn’t care. The judge in this parable really did not care about the widow. But he gave her the justice she was asking for because he didn’t want to be bothered by her anymore.
“Come to Me, all [a]who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
But one of the many great things about God is that He is not bothered when we come to Him. He wants us to bring our problems and concerns to Him. When we lift our concerns up to God we can be sure that He hears them, and that He will answer us. Not because He is annoyed, but because He loves us and wants to help.
